Welcome to Chelmsford U3A

Anne Tredgett

It is with very deep regret that we have to report the death of Anne Tredgett on the 19th August. From the moment she joined Anne was a committed and enthusiastic member of the Chelmsford U3A and quickly became involved in the running of the organisation. Initially she was the convenor of the Weekenders Group and she joined the main committee as Assistant Secretary in 2009 becoming Membership Secretary in 2010. In 2013 Anne starting Walking Group 2 for those who enjoyed and were able to do a longer walk at a faster pace.   Also in 2013 Anne started an Iyengar  Yoga class for beginners.  In 2013 Anne became Vice Chairman and then Chairman in 2014 but had to resign her duties in August due to illness after completing five and half years on the committee. Anne was very involved in all aspects of Chelmsford U3A and certainly put her heart into all the things which she did for the organisation.

I joined the committee at the same time as Anne in 2009.   My memories of Anne are of enjoying long walks in the Essex countryside with the walking group.  She would use a 20 year old walking book for inspiration and off we would go into the wilderness. She introduced me to the now addictive stem ginger oatmeal biscuits whilst perched on a narrow bridge near Coggeshall.   She was a good friend and I will miss her.

Anne Tredgett's funeral will be at 12.30 on Tuesday 2nd September

U3A stands for University of the Third Age, or that period in our lives after childhood and working life, when most of us have finished paid employment, and our families have flown the nest.  Although called a University, we do not seek to offer degrees, but use the term in its original sense, of groups of people wishing to study or discuss a subject.  We take this idea very loosely and include many and various topics, which in some cases are just pure enjoyment, and do not include study at all!
